Child Passenger Safety
Child Passenger Safety
Traveling with children is an everyday task for most parents. We must take the utmost precautions in order to ensure their safety.
All children occupying a vehicle should have a safety belt, booster seat or a safety seat. There is no 'best' safety seat, the 'best' safety seat is the one that fits your child properly and can be installed correctly. The back seat is the safest place in a crash. Children ages 12 and under should ride properly restrained in back.
Do's and Don'ts:
- DO NOT buckle two children in one safety belt. DO buckle up!
- DO NOT put a child on your lap. DO make sure the lap belt fits low and tight across the upper thighs. The shoulder belt should rest over the center of the shoulder and across the chest.
- DO NOT ride in the cargo area of a van, station-wagon, or pick-up. DO check the belt fit on the child in every vehicle.
- DO NOT put the shoulder belt behind the child's back or underneath their arm.
